VMFA Dream Wall

Leading and working alongside a multidisciplinary team of civil, structural, mechanical, and electrical engineers, Fall Line is creating a new home for the Dream Wall sculpture by the late Hubert Phipps as part of VMFA’s expanding campus. Relocated from Middleburg, Virginia, the artwork will become a prominent feature adjacent to the Museum’s new Annex Facility.

Centered within a reflecting basin and supported by custom audio-visual components, the installation is envisioned as more than a sculpture—it is a destination. Site design efforts focused on creating an immersive setting that encourages visitors to gather, reflect, and engage with the artwork while strengthening the connection between art, landscape, and architecture.

Through multiple design studies and cost evaluations, the team developed a solution that honors the spirit of the original installation while creating a new public experience tailored to the evolving VMFA campus. Scheduled for completion in 2026, the project will establish a distinctive cultural landmark and gathering space for museum visitors and the broader Richmond community.
